Disposal Truck Spills Fuel in North Tiverton Cul-De-Sac
Clean-up crews are working into the night to make sure the fuel doesn't seep into a resident's property, or nearby Watuppa Pond.
Work crews are cleaning up a hydraulic fuel spill Thursday in the Green Court cul-de-sac in North Tiverton.
Chief Robert Lloyd said they received a call around 1:30 p.m. from a resident that a Patriot Disposal truck spilled fuel all over the street. He said they sent an engine over, and the responders reportedy found fuel going into two storm drains in the cul-de-sac, noting that Patriot Disposal workers did a "small, inadequate" job attempting to clean it up.
"We put down pads to try to absorb [the fuel] and get it from going into the resident's property and Watuppa Pond," Lloyd said, adding they notified Patriot Disposal and the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management department that deals with hazardous materials spills.

Patriot, who Lloyd said is entirely responsible for the clean-up costs, sent a clean-up company, Cyn Environmental Services, to remediate the spill. Lloyd said they are checking the storm drains that connect together to check as far down as possible.
They are also laying down large cotton "booms" that are highly absorbent, and will power wash the street once cleaned up. Lloyd estimated crews should be working there through 8:30 p.m. Thursday night.

"It's important to notify us right away," he said. "I want to make sure the resident's property is safe."
Resident Christopher Siembab's property at 31 Green Court is directly affected by the spill, noting he came home near quarter to 5 p.m. to see the work crews on site.
