Driver in Crandall Road Van Accident Still in ICU

The following information was supplied by the Tiverton Police Department.

Editor's note: A correction was made to the original post to clarify the status of Victor Menard.

 The driver in the is still in the intensive care unit at Rhode Island Hospital.

Lt. Patrick Jones said a relative for Victor Menard, 33, of Fall River, came to the station last Friday, March 9, to claim the vehicle involved and speak with investigators.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation.

It took nearly three hours to clear the accident that night after the van struck several trees and rolled on its side after leaving the roadway. The requested an extra set of extrication tools to remove Menard from the van, and it caught fire during the process, but was quickly extinguished and no one was hurt.

“On behalf of the Tiverton Police, we deeply apologize to Patch readers and the family of Victor Menard," said Jones in an issued statement. "We were mistaken as to his condition. We have spoken with the family and in the future will confirm prior to commenting on his condition. We wish him a speedy recovery.”
