Driving with ice and snow on your car is a violation against state law. The law states: “No person shall drive any motor vehicle with any significant amounts of snow or ice upon the vehicle.”

Drivers should also be aware of black ice in extreme cold temperatures. Rhode Island State Police urges drivers to drive slower, leave more space between other vehicles and avoid sudden braking when black ice is present.
