The Little Compton Historical Society will host an oral history workshop presented by Brown University Professor and Oral Historian Anne Valk on Monday, October 29 at 7 PM at 26 Main St. in Adamsville, the former Stone Bridge Dishes.

Dr. Valk teaches oral history methods to undergraduates and graduates at the university.  This casual, interactive workshop is designed for interviewers with no previous oral history experience.  It will introduce best practices, help participants become comfortable with successful interview techniques and will include time for practice with simple digital recording devices.

Anyone willing to volunteer to collect oral histories for the Little Compton Historical Society in preparation for their 2013 "Remembering Adamsville" project may attend the workshop at no charge.  Others may attend at a cost of $20.  Space is limited.  Reservations are required by calling the Historical Society at 401-635-4035

The Historical Society has collected approximately 75 oral histories in the last few years with the help of dozens of volunteers.  The recordings and their transcripts are archived at the society and are used in the Historical Society's exhibits and publications.

The Society is currently collecting oral histories and written memories of Adamsville from its early days to the present for use in its exhibtion next summer.  Anyone interested in giving or recording oral histories or anyone willing to write their personal memories is encouraged to call 401-635-4035 and speak to Managing Director, Marjory Otoole.  Teenagers are welcome and community service hours can be awarded.
