Fight Leads Police to Find Unregistered Sex Offender in Tiverton

arrested a Fall River man last week after he violated the restraining order against him by his girlfriend and was later discovered to be an unregistered sex offender in Rhode Island.
Chad Michael LaFleur, 32, of 55 Tremont St., Fall River, was arrested at 9:47 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 4. He was charged with failing to register as sex offender, a felony, as well as a violation of a no contact order and vandalism.
According to Lt. Patrick Jones, police responded to a domestic disturbance at 20 Main Road last Tuesday. Upon arrival, they spoke with the 33-year-old girlfriend, who stated she was having an argument with another man, and he punched a door during the course of the fight.

Jones said officers did a check on the man, later identified as LaFleur, who had an active no contact order put against him by the woman.
After two charges were filed, Jones said detectives learned LaFleur had prior arrests and was registered as a sex offender in Massachusetts.

"When he changes locations, he's required to contact the local police department, and [he's] also required to contact Massachusetts and Rhode Island whenever they cross state lines," Jones said.
Jones was unsure of Lafleur's sex offender level in Massachusetts.
