Free Music, Kite-Making And Turning Off The Television

Here are a list of fun and free activities. While the activities this week are free, they each require pre-registrations. Check details for age limits as well.

This week's Grab & Go Kids Planner includes learning the ancient art of kite-making in Providence, turn your television off for one week in Little Compton or take a music open house in Portsmouth.

  • MUSIC TOGETHER FREE OPEN HOUSE CLASSES
    Where/When: Elite Academy, 35 Dyer St., Portsmouth, RI  March 22 to March, 31 (classes in Newport also available). Times vary. Check class schedule for details.
    Why Go: Music Together classes entail musical fun and learning for children and their parents. Open to families with children from newborns to age 5, for babies, toddlers, pre-schoolers, etc. Class size is limited.

  • BULLYING: A DINNER CONVERSATION WITH RETIRED LT. JOHN REIS
    Where/When: , March 25 at 6:30 p.m.
    Why Go: Game of Bullying Bingo and lively discussion lead by retired Providence Police Lt. John Reis on creating an environment where bullying is not tolerated. Middle school-aged kids, their parents and young siblings are welcome. Includes dinner. Sponsored by Little Compton Prevention Coalition.

  • AC MOORE CRAFT EVENT
    Where/When: AC Moore 494 State Road, North Dartmouth, MA; March 26 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
    Why Go: Take the kids for Fun Bug Clay Pot, Klutz face painting and a glass block decorating demonstration.

  • KITE WORKSHOP
    Where/When: Brown University Book Store, 244 Thayer Street, Providence, RI 02912, March 26 at 2 p.m.
    Why Go: Cub Explorers will learn about the ancient art of kite-making from its origins in China, to the modern kite shows we hold today. We'll also make and fly our own kites (weather permitting) after the program. They also have a link for how to make a kite.

  • WILBUR-MCMAHON SCHOOL TURN OFF T.V. WEEK SPONSORED BY LITTLE COMPTON PST
    Where/When: Variety of locations indicated below;  March 21 through March 25.
    Why Go: If the Wilbur-McMahon kids don't watch TV every day, they get a free book at the book fair in April. Events for Wilbur-McMahon students are Tuesday March 22 staff versus eighth grade basketball game after school until 4:30 p.m.; Wednesday, March 23 carousel skating rink in Fairhaven, MA, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. (All Wilbur-McMahon families are welcome to skate for free.); Thursday, March 24 is the "Minute to Win It" competition for grades 5 through 8 after school until 4:30 p.m.; and on Friday, March 25 a magician will present for grades K-4 after school until 3:45 p.m.
