Frugal Family: Local Farmers, Charity For Haiti School Girls and Pet Help

This week's Frugal Family highlights deals at CVS & Rite Aide as usual, extra gas points at Stop & Shop- but go quick, good only through tomorrow!

1. Get Local Greens
Have you driven on East Road lately and wondered what was going on underneath all those fabric coverings?  I just got a tour from half of the Roots Farm team- Kelli, who owns the farm with her husband Mike. In the big hoop house is the most beautiful rows of mixed greens I have ever seen! Just about all winter they were able to produce delicious mixed greens, spinach and carrots by using this high tunnel and a second layer of special fabric which keeps the greens warm enough to keep growing. They are careful to harvest just enough so that the plants continue to grow and they can continue to harvest again the next week. What can be more frugal than eating greens produced with only the sun’s (and the farmer’s) energy? Currently you can purchase greens and spinach (soon onions and leeks) right on farm Fridays from 4:30 6:30 p.m.

 2. Stop & Shop gas points
Deal: save up to 40 cents per gallon by buying specific items at Stop & Shop. There is a flyer at the entrance of the store that lists all the participating items, some of which there are coupons for racking up even more savings. Frosted Mini Wheats- 3/23 flyer has two coupons for a combined savings of $2.50. 3/2 flyer had coupons for more mini wheats if you could stand it, Pop Tarts save $1/3 so buy purchasing all these you would have met the requirements for 100 gas points (or 10 cents off).
Good through: tomorrow only- March 31!!

 3.  Girl Scout Dress Collection
Some of the older Little Compton girl scouts are working on a project collecting new/used dresses for school girls in Haiti. Their goal is to collect 1000 dresses by early May. Maybe they can leave a comment to contact them directly if you would like to frugally assist with this charity event, otherwise please email me for more information.
