Back to School: Little Compton Teachers to Use Chromebooks

Plus, Supt. Robert Power said Monday student athletes can play field hockey this year and new education programs are being introduced.

LITTLE COMPTON, RI—When Little Compton students went back to school last week, they found a few changes in the classrooms, Supt. Robert Power said Monday.

First, Power said, the district has started a brand new program for differentiated learning, which allows teachers to tailor the instruction so the students who need extra time will be able to keep up and the youngsters on the fast track will not be bored. The program, Achieve 3000, is going to be introduced in grades 5 through 8, he said. It's for writing and for non-fiction reading, according to the company's website.

Also new this year, teachers are receiving their Chromebooks, the Google-powered device increasingly being used by school districts for teaching. The children don't have their Chromebooks yet, he said, but the teachers will use the lead time to learn how to work the devices into the curriculum.
