Woman Arrested After Altercation Involving Weapons And 'Significant Injuries:' Cops
A machete and a knife are believed to have been used during the altercation, police said.
TIVERTON, RI — A Portsmouth woman was arrested following an "altercation involving weapons," including possibly a machete and a knife, and "significant injuries," police said.
Annie Laurie Commons, 39, was arrested Monday on charges of domestic violence — felony assault and/or battery, domestic violence — unlawful breaking and entering a dwelling house, domestic violence — disorderly conduct, domestic violence — assault with a dangerous weapon in a dwelling house, and possession of a knife during the commission of a crime, The Tiverton Police Department said in a media release.
Shortly after 3:30 p.m., police started receiving "multiple 911 calls reporting a physical altercation involving weapons" at a house on Hooper Street near Bottom Street, the release said.

Officers arrived at the house to find "two individuals suffering from significant injuries," according to the release.
"Both parties were provided medical treatment at the scene and transported to Rhode Island Hospital for further care," the release said.

"The investigation determined that the incident involved a 39-year-old Portsmouth woman and a 41-year-old Tiverton man," according to the release. "Evidence collected at the scene, witness statements, and the subsequent investigation led detectives to seek criminal charges."
The matter remains under investigation and additional charges may be considered, per the release.
"During the course of the investigation, officers recovered weapons believed to have been used during the altercation, including a machete and a knife," the release said.
