Little Compton Therapist Charged in $84K Insurance Scheme

Denise Fleurant, 55, was arrested after patients and employees contacted authorities.

A Little Compton therapist was charged in lucrative insurance scheme, State Police announced Thursday.

Fifty-five-year-old Denise Fleurant, who owns Newport Psychological Services in Middletown, alleged billed Blue Cross Blue Shield of Rhode Island $83,863.88 for psychological testing that her patients never received.

State Police said 19 patients and some of Fleurant’s employees contacted authorities about the scheme.

Fleurant faces up to 21 years in prison if she’s convicted.

It wasn’t the first time Fleurant has been in trouble with the authorities.

In 2012, one of her doctors, Philemon Truesdale Marvell, was suspended after state health officials said he didn’t follow proper procedure for prescribing drugs.
