Scuffle Over Girl Trips Fire Alarm at Tiverton Apartment Complex

A fight over a woman that spilled into the foyer of a Tiverton apartment complex and allegedly tripped the box fire alarm last week led to assault charges for one Fall River man.
arrested Nuno M. Aguiar, 25, of 401 Whipple St., Fall River, at 1:43 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 3 at 700 Windwood Drive, also known as the . Aguiar was charged with domestic simple assault and battery.
According to Lt. Patrick Jones, the was dispatched to Windwood Apartments earlier in the evening for a report of a box alarm sounding. Fire officials found the alarm had been set off intentionally and contacted police, adding that a fight may have occurred in the area prior to their arrival.

Jones said police officers spoke to one tenant, who said there was an issue that night between her daughter and her ex-boyfriend.
"It was clearly over a girl," Jones said.

According to police, a man, later identified as Aguiar, waited outside the apartment complex for his ex-girlfriend to arrive. When she arrived with another man, Aguiar allegedly blocked the entrance to the apartments trying to talk to the woman.
"Several times the ex-girlfriend attempts to open the door and he pushes her away," Jones said.
Once the girl and male friend were able to enter the apartment foyer, Aguiar allegedly followed them inside and struck the other male in the face. Jones said a "scuffle" ensued where they may have pushed up against the fire alarm.
"Both allege they did not push it, but bouncing around [the foyer], they could have activated it," Jones added.
