Select Chorus Excels at Music in the Parks Festival

This past May, The Tiverton High School Select Chorus, under the direction of Beth Bergeron and composed  of 14 dedicated students, traveled to the Music In The Parks Festival in Hershey, PA.

The chorus performed three contrasting pieces. “Wade in the Water”, a traditional spiritual, was used as a warmup for the students and Director to accustom themselves to the sounds of the auditorium. Following that were two adjudication pieces called “The Heavens Are Telling” and “Java Jive.”

Select Chorus is an audition based High School Chorus who meet after school on a regular basis during the school year. They are in their third year now, and with each one their work ethic is strengthened.  Because they meet after school and not during regular school hours, they form a diverse, committed group with one common goal - superb singing!

The Festival concluded with Tiverton receiving a Superior rating, and with scores of 95 and 97 from the college adjudicators, they placed first in their division. These scores are the highest ever for a Tiverton High School Vocal Ensemble. The students were complimented on their blend, balance, tone quality and vocal production, as well as for diversity of repertoire.

In addition, they received  the distinction of “Overall Best High School Chorus” and Evan Kinnane received the award for “Outstanding Soloist” for the weekend event.
