Several Reported Illnesses at Little Compton School

The school nurse sent out a letter to families urging them to take preventative measures.

The school nurse at Wilbur McMahon School sent out a letter to parents on Thursday informing them of several reported cases of illnesses within the school community

There have been reports of flu, stomach virus, pinkeye, head lice and viral illnesses.

School nurse Jean S. Dunn advised parents to keep their child at home if they have a fever, diarrhea, excessive coughing and runny noses or are vomiting. The child can return to school once they are free of symptoms or have been on antibiotic treatment for 24 hours, Dunn advised.

“If you discover that your child has head lice, I would appreciate a phone call to let me know,” she wrote in the notice.

Dunn reminds families to prevent the spread of germs by washing your hands, covering your mouth while coughing and disposing of used tissues.

Here’s some advice from the CDC on how to stop the spread of germs at home, work and school:

  • Avoid close contact.
  • Stay home when sick.
  • Cover your mouth and nose.
  • Clean your hands.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth
  • Clean and disinfect surfaces or objects.
