Sogkonate Garden Club thanks volunteers for International Coastal Cleanup Day

The members of the Sogkonnet Garden Club want to thank the 68 volunteers who donated their time to clean the Little Compton coastline on Sept. 15 and those who clean up the beaches and river throughout the year. They collected 1,540 pounds of trash and litter. The biggest increase was in lobster pots and traps along with fishing line and nets while a big decrease was noted in cigarette butts and plastic bags. Geoff Denis did his usual wonderful job of cleaning East and West islands as well as collecting lobster pots and other large items from various beaches throughout the year. The Sakonnet Yacht Club provided a gathering spot for volunteers and again Kristin Close came from Vermont to Head the Sakonnet Point area cleanup. Her crew collected 1,445 pounds of trash, 48 bags of trash and 68 lobster pots! Written by Lynne Curtis
