Tigers Enjoy Prosperous First Week of Fall Season

Most fall sports teams at Tiverton High opened their regular-season schedules last week and results, on the whole, were positive for the Tigers.

sports teams enjoyed more successes than disappointments last week during the opening week of the fall 2011 regular-season for Rhode Island schools.

FOOTBALL

Tiverton made an auspicious 2011 regular-season debut, using big plays to overpower Hope High School of Providence, 46-22, in a non-league outing. Jacob Kapstein scored three touchdowns on runs of 1, 10 and 43 yards for the Tigers and also tossed a 40-yard scoring aerial to Taylor Ekstrom.

B.K. Kiser scored two long touchdowns for Tiverton on a 90-yard run and an 86-yard return with a pass interception and Trevor Pavao tallied on a 49-yard jaunt. Nick Barboza booted four extra points for the winners, who led by scores of 14-0, 26-16 and 33-22 at the stops.

The Tigers dropped their Division III-South opener on the road, bowing to Exeter-West Greenwich Regional High School 4-0. The Scarlet Knights scored all their goals in the first half.

Matt Ramos collected 15 saves in net for Tiverton, which produced six shots on goal.

GIRLS’ SOCCER

Tiverton settled for a 0-0 deadlock at Ponaganset Regional High School of Glocester in its Division II opener. Goalkeeper Haley Higginbottom recorded 12 saves for the Tigers, who were out-shot by a 12-6 margin.

GIRLS’ TENNIS

Tiverton commenced its 2011 regular-season schedule with an impressive 6-1 Division III-South victory at Pilgrim High School of Warwick. The Tigers swept the singles’ matches behind No. 1 Mariah Korn (6-1, 6-3), No. 2 Hannah Glowacki (6-7, 7-6, 6-4), No. 3 Chelsea Petit (6-0, 6-1) and No. 4 Samantha Rollings (6-1, 6-1), and won in doubles’ competition with No. 1 Tori Davis-Courtney Toler (6-3, 6-0) and No. 3 Zaura Amaral-Mallorie Blake (3-6, 6-3, 6-3).

GIRLS' VOLLEYBALL

The girls' volleyball team in three straight sets earlier this week (25-21, 25-16, 25-9). Tiverton plays Mount Hope High School of Bristol this week.
