Tiverton Police Logs: Alleged Assault on Girlfriend, Disorderly Conduct and DUI

The following arrests were supplied by the Tiverton Police Department. They do not indicate a conviction.

 charged a local man with assault last week after he reportedly got into an argument with his girlfriend and threw her to the ground.

Steven Zambic, 47, of 51 Knotty Pine Drive, Tiverton, was arrested at 1:35 a.m., Monday, Jan. 2 and charged with domestic simple assault.

Officers responded to the residence for a report of a domestic in progress, according to Lt. Patrick Jones. Upon arrival, police met with a woman who stated she was in an argument with her boyfriend, Zambic. Jones said she alleged Zambic began yelling and saying he'd "throw her out." At one point, facing the kitchen counter, the victim alleged Zambic grabbed her hair and threw her to the ground. While on the ground, Jones said the victim alleged Zambic continued yelling, saying he'd "throw her out" and "stood over her as if he'd strike her."

Police reportedly found a bruise on the victim's elbow and a fritchen burn on her knee.

Allegedly disorderly woman locks herself in bathroom

Whitney Durfee, 47, of 2423 Main Road, Apt. 5, Tiverton, was arrested at 10:45 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2011. She was charged with disorderly conduct and was also taken into custody based on an outstanding bench warrant issued from Second District Court in Newport.

Jones said officers responded to the residence to assist the rescue unit. Durfee was allegedly refusing to cooperate with medical personnel after locking herself in a bathroom. Jones said it was also learned, through Durfee's sister, that she could possibly have a court warrant. Police reportedly made entry after Durfee refused to come out of the bathroom, under the impression there could be a medical emergency.

Jones said the officers entered the bathroom and Durfee refused medical treatment, and then when rescue personnel were checking for vital signs, Durfee reportedly refused to be transported to the hospital. He noted that Durfee "ripped" the medical form from the firefighter's hands and "began flailing her arms around."

DUI

Kenneth Hilton, 53, of 149 Stoney Hollow Road, Tiverton, was arrested at 11:23 p.m., Friday, Dec. 30, 2011. Hilton was charged with operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol or drugs and refusal to submit a chemical test.

Jones said police received a report that night of a red Pontiac driving erratically on Stafford Road going southbound. Officers checking in the area saw the vehicle matching the description given by the caller. Jones said officers observed the vehicle traveling at an "extremely slow rate of speed" and was going in and out of the travel lane and swerving. Officers stopped the vehicle and made contact with the driver, later identified as Hilton.

He was asked to submit a series of field sobriety tests, which he failed, Jones added.

Passenger of car has active no contact order against driver

Alexander Robles, 44, of 82 Warner Ave., Newport, was arrested at 9:52 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 5. Robles was charged with violation of a no contact order and operating a motor vehicle without a valid driver's license.

Jones said officers traveling south on Route 24 saw a vehicle driving erratically, passing from the travel lane without signaling and dropping below the minimum speed. Officers stopped the vehicle and made contact with the operator, Robles, who had another passenger in the vehicle. Jones said it was confirmed he did not have a valid driver's license, and learned he had an active no contact order issued against him by that passenger.

Bench warrant

  • Donna Franco, 43, of 1 Mill St., Apt. 1426, Tiverton, was arrested at 6:44 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2011. She taken into custody on an active bench warrant issued from Second District Court. Jones said an officer on patrol in the area saw two vehicles parked side by side, and learned the owner of one of the vehicles, Franco, had an active bench warrant.
  • A 17-year-old boy, of Tiverton, was arrested at 4:29 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2011. He was taken into custody on an active bench warrant in family court. 
  • Shavaughn A. Gorgizian, 31, of 60 Kelly St., Apt. 1, Fall River, MA, was arrested at 5:49 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 3. She was taken into custody based on an outstanding bench warrant in Newport Superior Court. Jones said the woman reportedly walked into the station to dispute a custody issue and, after a background check, saw she an active bench warrant for her arrest.
