Tiverton High School Graduates Say 'See You Soon'

“Receiving your high school diploma means that each member of this graduating class has reached an important milestone in their life," said Superintendent William Rearick in his address to the graduates. "Each graduate was able to accomplish this goal through hard work and with the love and support from your family, friends, and teachers”

Mr. Rearick also cited the wise words of Thomas Jefferson, quoting “nothing can stop the person with the right mental attitude from achieving their goal; nothing on earth can help the person with the wrong mental attitude.”

The ceremony also featured a welcoming address from Principal Steven Fezette, and a commencement address from ABC6 reporter Andrea Medeiros. Following a superb selection from the Tiverton High School Band came addresses from class Salutatorian Micaela Barcelou and Valedictorian David Perry.

Perry’s address quoted the Greek philosopher Socrates, saying “education is the kindling of a flame, not the filling of a vessel.” It ended with a reference to the words of Peter Pan creator J.M. Barrie: “Never say goodbye, because goodbye means going away and going away means forgetting.”

“So, to my fellow classmates and to everyone here we should not say 'goodbye,' but rather 'see you soon,' for we should never forget the memories and experiences we’ve shared together,” concluded Perry.

The ceremony ended with the presentation of diplomas and customary tossing of mortarboards. With that, the Class of 2012 marched out of Tiverton High School’s gymnasium for the last time, proceeding toward whatever their exciting futures may entail.
