Tiverton Man Arrested in Middletown on Heroin Charges

A Tiverton man is facing charges for heroin possession and a "strong-arm" robbery after being picked up on an arrest warrant in Middletown last week.

Erik R. Gravel, 27, of 100 Fern Way, Tiverton, was arrested by at 10 p.m. Monday, Oct. 3. He was charged with possession of heroin and being a fugitive from justice.

According to Tiverton Lt. Patrick Jones,  initially picked up Gravel that night at 6:30 p.m. and then contacted Tiverton. Gravel was turned over to Tiverton's custody based on an arrest warrant for possession fo heroin. Lt. Jones said Gravel also has a felony arrest warrant out of the Fall River Police Department for a strong-arm robbery. Details on that charge are not immediately available.

"It was required they immediately transport him," Jones said.

Lt. Jones said on Sept. 17, officers responded to a 911 call from Gravel's mother to the Fern Way residence for a report of a male "suffering from an apparent overdose and not breathing."

Lt. Jones said rescue personnel arrived with responding officers and found Gravel unconsicous on the floor. He was transported to an area hospital for treatment for nearly overdosing.

Lt. Jones said officers found a syringe in Gravel's bathroom "partially loaded with a brown liquid." Police seized it, along with other discovered paraphernalia. He said it later tested positive for heroin.
