Tiverton Man Charged Twice In Week For Domestic Disputes

arrested a local man twice in five days for allegedly taking his girlfriend's cell phone, texting her in violation of a restraining order.
Steven D. Gendreau, 28, of Tiverton, was arrested at 9:46 p.m. Apri 26 and charged with domestic refusal to relinquish a telephone.
He was arrested again at 8:31 a.m., Monday, April 30, and charged with violation of a no contact order and obstruction of a police officer after he allegedly became uncooperative.

Lt. Patrick Jones said police responded to the home on April 26 for a report of a conflict in progress between a boyfriend and girlfriend. Upon arrival, officers spoke to the girlfriend, who alleged that during an argument with her boyfriend, Gendreau, he put his hand over her mouth in an attempt to get her to stop talking.
"She was frightened by this and went to dial 911," Jones said. "At this point, Mr. Gendreau allegedly took the phone from her to prevent her from calling 911."

Then on Monday, Jones said the same girlfriend walked into the police station to make a complaint. Since the April 26 arrest, a no contact order was issued aganst Gendreau. Jones said the girlfriend alleged Gendreeau was allegedly texting her.
Gendreau reportedly came to the station at the police's request and turned himself in. In the booking room, Jones said when Gendreau learned he was being placed under arrest, he allegedly refused to be processed and was uncooperative.
