Search Continues For Man Who Sparked CCRI Lockdown: Warwick Police

The man was not located but a backpack holding an airsoft gun and a pellet rifle was found, police said.

WARWICK, RI — The daylong search for the man who sparked a lockdown of the Community College of Rhode Island did not locate him, but a backpack holding an airsoft gun and a pellet rifle was found, police said.

Police launched the search about 8:45 a.m. after receiving a report of a "male carrying a backpack with what appeared to be a firearm partially exposed within the backpack" was spotted in the area of Commonwealth Avenue near the rear entrance of CCRI, the Warwick police said in a media release.

"An extensive search was conducted," the release said, "primarily concentrated in the wooded area off Commonwealth Avenue behind CCRI where there is encampment activity."

While the man was not located Tuesday, "police have information on who he is and continue to search for him," according to the release.

"This event appears to have been isolated activity and there was never any known threat to area schools, businesses, or residents," the release said. "Police continue to search for the person of interest who would have been in possession of the backpack and articles. Although he has not yet been located, there is no indication that he poses a danger to the public."
