Tiverton Police: 3 DUIs, 3 Alleged Assaults and Pot Arrests

The following arrests were supplied by the Tiverton Police Department. They do not indicate a conviction.

Driver blows .168 in police stop

Jacqueline Buckley, 47, of 825 Bulgarmarsh Road, was arrested at 8:42 p.m., Saturday, April 28. She was charged with operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol or drugs (first offense, BAC .15 or greater), operating a motor vehicle without a valid license, using a breakdown lane for travel and lane violations.

Lt. Patrick Jones said an officer posted near Main Road and Heritage Park saw Buckley drive past, and based on previous contacts with her, knew she did not have a valid driver's license. Jones said the officer followed her after she pulled out of the intersection of Fairfield and Main Road. The officer noted her vehicle swerving all over the road, into the breakdown lane and center line. Jones said Buckley was pulled over, and the officer noted signs of alcohol intoxication.

Buckley reportedly blew a .168 to an onsite breathalyzer test, and then back at the station, took readings of .161 and .169.

Alleged assault at Town Farm

Chrystal J. Coyne, 31, of Portsmouth, was arrested at 4:39 p.m., Sunday, April 29 at . She was charged with domestic disorderly conduct and simple assault and battery.

Jones said police responded to the area for a report of a domestic dispute between a woman, Coyne and her 29-year-old ex-boyfriend with whom they have children in common, a 9- and 10-year-old. The victim alleged that Coyne approached a vehicle containing the ex-boyfriend and a 32-year-old woman and began to yell and scream. It's alleged Coyne opened a car door and pushed the woman and threatened the man. She was then arrested.

Driver allegedly avoids speaking to cops during pot arrest

Aaron A. Borges, 20, of 69 Healy St., Apt. 2, Fall River, MA, was arrested at 7:05 p.m., Monday, April 30. He was charged with possession of marijuana (first offense), operating a motor vehicle while in possession of controlled substances and three seat belt violations.

Jones said police stopped a vehicle on Canonicus Street after seeing three people in the vehicle reportedly not wearing safety belts. Upon approaching the vehicle, the officer could smel marijuana, and told that to the operator, Borges. Jones said Borges reportedly refused to roll down the window completely and avoided making eye contact. A later search revealed marijuana in a cigarette pack in the center console, as well as six joints.

Property dispute between brothers leads to arrests

Jose R. Souza, 63, and John Souza, 62, both, Tiverton, were arrested at 6 p.m., Saturday, April 28. Both men were charged with domestic simple assault and battery. John was also charged with willful trespass.

Lt. Jones said police responded to a Church Street property for a report of an unwanted person. Upon arrival, police spoke with Jose, who claimed the property belonged to their parents and he had power of attorney. Jose alleged he was called that someone at the house, so he went there and saw his brother, John, in the rear saying he was reportedly there to retreive pictures. John alleged Jose grabbed his arms and pushed him, and Jose reportedly denied the assault and made a counter allegation against his brother. Based on that, Jones said both received assault charges and John was also charged with trepassing.

DUI

  • Joseph E. Medeiros, 30, of 207 Bay View St., Fall River, MA, was arrested at 8:55 p.m., Thursday, April 26. He was charged with operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol or drugs, refusal to submit a chemical test, operating a motor vehicle with a revoked registration and other motor vehicle violations. Jones said an officer saw a vehicle traveling southbound on Main Road in the area of Hilton Street. The officer stopped the vehicle after making an abrupt left-hand turn, and observed signs of alcohol intoxication from the driver, Medeiros. He reportedly took a field sobriety test, and failed. Jones said he refused a chemical test back at the station.
  • Craig R. Almy, 23, of 4 Main Road, Apt. 2, Tiverton, was arrested at 11:42 p.m., Thursday, April 26. He was charged with operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol or drugs (first offense), refusal to submit a chemical test, passing a vehicle going in the opposite direction and other motor vehicle violations. Jones said police stopped a vehicle traveling north on Main Road in the area of . The officer noted the vehicle swerving over the double yellow line and the break down lane, and nearly struck a vehicle in the oncoming lane. Upon stopping the vehicle, Jones said the officer noted the driver, Almy, showed signs of alcohol intoxication. Almy was arrested after he refused to submit a breath test and later a chemical test.

Pot possession

  • Cameron J. Vanmarter, 21, of 29 Taddy Ave., Warren, was arrested at 10:15 p.m., Monday, April 23. He was charged with possession of marijuana (first offense), operating a motor vehicle while in possession of controlled substances and a muffler violation. Jones said police stopped a car on Main Road for a muffler violation, and the officer reported an odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. During a later search, police found a purple bag on the front passenger floor that contained a marijuana grinder, a pipe and a jar containing marijuana.
  • George Duarte, 27, of 722 Stafford Road, Apt. 3, Fall River, MA, was arrested at 6:22 p.m., Tuesday, April 24. He was charged with possession of marijuana (first offense), operating a motor vehicle while in possession of controlled substances and two seatbelt violations. Jones said police stopped a vehicle at on Main Road for seatbelt violations, and reportedly smelled an odor of marijuana. A subsequent search revealed marijuana in the car's ash tray.
  • Adam Peckham, 27, of 1119 Bedford St., Apt. 1, Fall River, MA, was arrested at 6:34 p.m., Tuesday, April 24. He was charged with possession of marijuana (first offense). Jones said Peckham was a passenger on Duarte's car during the Cumberland Farms stop.

Alleged assault

Brian Ferreria, 26, of Tiverton, was arrested at 2:48 p.m., Tuesday, April 24 and charged with domestic simple assault and battery. Jones said police responded to a residence for a report of a domestic in progress. Upon arrival, an officer spoke to a woman who claimed to have a fight with her boyfriend, Ferreira. The victim alleged Ferreria pushed her.

Violation of no contact order

Glen C. Brown, 43, of 59 Evans Ave., Apt. 1, Tiverton, was arrested at 2:02 p.m., Monday, April 23. Brown was charged with violation of a no contact order. Jones said the estranged wife of Brown came into the station on April 21 to file complaint. She said the no contact order was specific in that Brown could only contact her by text or email in regard to their child. Jones said the woman provided the information Brown allegedly communicated to her outside the scope of the protective order. Based on that, an affidavit and arrest warrant were issued and Brown turned himself into court on April 23.

Giving false documentation

Geiderson Carvalho, 24, of 123 Locust St., second floor, Fall River, MA, was arrested at 6:01 p.m., Monday, April 23. He was charged with giving a false document to a public official and operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license. Jones said Carvalho was stopped on Main Road for speeding. The officer approached Carvalho, who reportedly prduced an international driver's membership card and did not have a valid driver's license. It was later learned the card he produced was a falsified international driver's membership card and Carvalho was charged.

Hitchhiking on Main Road

John B. Woods III, 50, of 1128 Anthony Road, Portsmouth, and Jenifer Lynn Brooks, 36, were both arrested around 6 p.m., Friday, April 27. They were both charged with soliciting rides from motor vehicles. Jones said an officer reportedly saw the two on Main Road hitchhiking in front of . The two were arrested and brought back to the station.

Bench warrants

  • Lindsey K. Fernandes, 25, of 7 E. Demello Drive, Tiverton, was arrested at 2:21 p.m., Friday, April 27. She was taken into custody based on an outstanding bench warrant issued in Second District Court for failure to pay fines. Jones said police responded to the area of Crandall Road for a minor accident, and it was learned during the course of investigation that one of the drivers, Fernandes, had an active bench warrant.  
  • Jason Allen Pinheiro, 27, of 98 Arnold St., New Bedford, MA, was arrested at 7:09 p.m., Saturday, April 28. He was taken into custody based on an oustanding bench warrant issued in Second District Court for failure to pay court fines.
  • Jeffrey David Arruda, 44, of 121 Corys Lane, Tiverton, was arrested at 9:49 p.m., Saturday, April 28. He was taken into custody based on an oustanding bench warrant issued in Second District Court for failure to pay court fines. Jones said he was stopped on Stafford Road for a break light out and an unbelted passenger.
