Tiverton Police Detain Neighbor Allegedly Making Threats

A Tiverton man received several charges last week after allegedly threatening a mother and her son, then resisting arrest from .
Chester B. Hayden, 48, of 1423 Crandall Road, Tiverton, was arrested at 6:53 p.m., Friday, March 23. He was charged with disorderly conduct, resisting arrest and two counts of violating no contact orders.
Police responded to a report of a neighbor disturbance on Crandall Road, said Lt. Patrick Jones. A man and his mother alleged that their neighbor, Hayden, began to yell at them as the son drove up the driveway to visit her. The son reportedly began to walk away from his vehicle when he heard something thrown at it, and Hayden began allegedly yelling profanities and threatening him, stating, "I have a gun inside. I will [expletive] take care of you."

Jones said the mother approached at this point, and Hayden reportedly began addressing her with obscenities. That's when the two called the police.
Officers went over to Hayden's and could reportedly see him sitting in his home through the front screen door. They asked him to step out of the residence to answer to the allegations. Jones said Hayden reportedly ran inside the house, and the officer's gave chase.

When inside, Jones said officers reportedly saw Hayden running toward a large machete type of knife. The officers ordered Hayden to the ground and seized the knife.
"There was a brief struggle," Jones said. "Hayden eventually complied and was placed in handcuffs."
Back at the station, Jones said police learned there were existing no contact orders issued against Hayden: one each from the son and mother.
