Tiverton Police: Knives, Brass Knuckles, Assault, Pot and False Names
The following arrests were supplied by the Tiverton Police Department. They do not indicate a conviction.

charged a Fall River man with three counts of weapons possession, along with pot possession, after being stopped on Stafford Road last week.
Timothy Jay Dougherty, 18, of 56 Tripp St., Fall River, MA, was arrested at 11:28 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 25 in front of the on Stafford Road. Doherty was charged with three counts of possessing weapons other than a firearm and pot possession (first offense).
Lt. Patrick Jones said police stopped a vehicle on Stafford Road for a malfunctioning brake light. The officer detected an odor of marijuana upon making contact with the driver, later identified as Dougherty. During a search of the vehicle, Jones said officers found several marijuana cigarettes in the ashtray.

Police also recovered a switchblade, a set of brass knuckles and a second knife with a blade longer than three inches.
Boyfriend allegedly assaults girlfriend

Dustin Harrison, 23, of 699 Bulgarmarsh Road, Tiverton, was arrested at 11:32 a.m., Friday, Jan. 27. Harrison was charged with domestic simple assault.
Jones said police responded to the Bulgarmarsh Road residence for a report of a domestic disturbance. Upon arrival they spoke with a woman who claimed her boyfriend, later identified as Harrison, struck her in the head. She alleged an argument started when the two of them were driving back from Fall River. Jones said the girlfriend alleged that when they pulled into their driveway back in Tiverton, Harrison punched her in the back of the head, causing a small lump.
Jones said the girlfriend was transported to a nearby hospital by rescue and Harrison was taken into custody.
Pot possession
Donald L. Howarth, 41, of 13 Pleasant St., Assonet, MA, was arrested at 10:43 p.m., Monday, Jan. 30. He was charged with possession of marijuana (first offense) and operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license.
Jones said police stopped a vehicle on Route 24 for doing 70 miles per hour in a 55 mile per hour zone, as well as allegedly doing several lane roadway violations. Upon speaking with the driver, Howarth, police learned he had a suspended license. Prior to the vehicle being towed, officers found a groery bag tucked between a seat and the center console containing marijuana.
Allegedly providing false name
Jose Luis Martinez, 23, of 680 Third St., Fall River, MA, was arrested at 11:50 p.m., Friday, Jan. 27. Martinez was charged with obstruction, operating a motor vehicle without a license and was also taken into custody based on an active bench warrant issued in Sixth District Court. Jones said an officer stopped a vehicle on Route 24 for several lane roadway violations. Officers also ran the registration plate and it came back to a Dodge, although they pulled over a silver Honda Civic. Jones said police observed four children in the back seat, with some not properly fastened in their seatbelts. Upon asking the driver, Martinez, for his license, Jones said he told police he did not have it on him and had just purchased the vehicle.
Jones said Martinez reportedly first identified himself with a false name, and the officer was later able to determine he did not have a license. They also learned about his active bench warrant.
Bench warrant
- Scott Richard Pinardi, 26, of 19 Division St., Fall River, MA, was arrested at 9:09 p.m., Monday, Jan. 30. He was taken into custody on based on two active bench warrants in Second District Court. Jones said police stopped a vehicle on Main Road in the north end for the driver not wearing a safety belt. Upon speaking to one of the passengers, identified as Pinardi, police found he had the two active warrants for failure to pay court fines.
- Marlen Escarle Franco, 19, of 680 Third St., Fall River, was arrested at 11:50 p.m., Friday Jan. 27. She was taken into custody based on an active bench warrant issued in Fourth District Court. She was a passenger in the car with Martinez on the Route 24 stop.
