Tiverton Police Logs: Stolen Scrap Metal, Late-Night Smoking and Assaults
The following arrests were supplied by the Tiverton Police Department. They do not indicate a conviction.

arrested a Tiverton man on Saturday night after his mother reported he stole scrap metal from her yard and tried to sell it.
Jason Moreira, 26, of 986 Stafford Road, Tiverton, was arrested at 6:13 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 10, after turning himself in. He was charged with domestic larceny under $500.
Officers spoke with a woman earlier that day who claimed her son, later identified as Moreira, took a quantity of scrap metal from her backyard when he was told he could not have it, according to Lt. Patrick Jones. Later in the day, the mother reported she saw her son loading articles of scrap metal into a pick-up truck to take to a local scrap yard for money. Jones said officers were able to contact Moreira, who turned himself in.

Girl allegedly found late at night in packed car with pot, pipes
Alicia Brett, 26, of 93 Osborne St., Apt. 3, Fall River, MA, was arrested at 4:18 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 10, in the area of 160 Souza Road. She was charged with possession of marijuana (first offense).

Jones said officers were called to Souza Road at 3:16 a.m. for a report of a suspicious vehicle. Officers found the vehicle parked on the side of the road with four people in it, including Brett in the driver's seat. Upon investigating, Jones said Brett was found in possession of a quantity of marijuana. He added the responding officer saw glass pipes "in plain view" in the rear of the vehicle, usually associated with smoking marijuana.
Simple assault
- Wendy Rydberg, 46, of 20 Norman Drive, Tiverton, was arrested at 10:38 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 7, at her residence. She was charged with domestic simple assault and battery. Jones said police were dispatched to the home and met wiht the husband, who stated that, during an argument, his wife, later identified as Rydberg, threw a beer at him. Based on that, Ms. Rydberg was arrested.
- Marlene Mota, 35, of 301 Bulgarmarsh Road, Unit 73, Tiverton, was arrested at 4:52 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 7. Mota was charged with domestic simple assault and battery. Jones said police were called via 911 to the trailer park for a domestic dispute between a boyfriend and girlfriend. Upon arrival, police met with the boyfriend, who alleged his girlfriend, later identified as Mota, struck him in the face after allegedly preventing her from leaving. Jones said the boyfriend called police because he felt she was too intoxicated to drive.
Making late-night threatening calls
Marie Van Cala, 55, of 32 Cala Ave., Tiverton, was arrested at 10:49 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 12. She was charged with making crank or obscene phone calls.
Jones said a complaint was filed on Dec. 6 stating that Van Cala was calling a man at all hours of the night and leaving messages on his answering machine of a "threatening and vulgar nature." A warrant was issued for the harassing telephone calls.
Illegal U-turn leads to pot arrest
Robert B. Eckstrom, 20, of 30 Wampanoag Lane, Tiverton, was arrested at 8:45 p.m., Friday, Dec. 9, in the area of 445 Hooper St. He was charged with possession of marijuana (first offense), operating a motor vehicle while in possession of controlled subtances and operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license.
Jones said police stopped a vehicle for making an illegal U-turn on Hooper Street. Upon investigation, the officer detected a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle, and a subsequent search revealed a quantity of marijuana. The police officer also learned that Eckstrom had a suspended license, Jones added.
Son allegedly steals cash from father
Corey Bolick, 18, of 45 Robert Gray Ave., Tiverton, was arrested at 12:43 a.m., Friday, Dec. 10. Bolick was charged with domestic larceny under $500.
Jones said officers responded to Bolick's home at the request of his father, alleging the son had stolen money, approximately $90, from him. Jones added the son admitted to stealing the money and was taken into custody.
