Tiverton Police Logs: Stun Gun Possession, Kids With Booze and Littering in Front of Police

The following arrests were supplied by the Tiverton Police Department. They do not indicate a conviction.

arrested two Dartmouth, MA residents on Sunday. One reportedly carried a stun gun and the other had alcohol and was under 21.

Alex Torres, 23, of 11 Johnson St., Dartmouth, MA, was arrested at 2:02 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 27 on Hayden Avenue. He was charged with possession of a stun gun.

The passenger, Shane Priest, 20, of 14 Shannon St., Dartmouth, was charged with possession of alcohol by an underage person.

Lt. Patrick Jones said an officer on patrol stopped a vehicle driving at a high rate of speed on Hayden Avenue. Police identified the driver, Torres, a female passenger and Priest sitting in the back seat.

"The rear passenger had an open can of Budweiser in the rear console," Jones said, adding that Priest told the cop his beer was "half full."

Jones said the officer also saw four full Budweiser cans at Priest's feet, then asked of his age, confirming he was 20 years old.

Upon further investigation, Jones said the officer found a stun gun from underneath Torres' seat. The two were taken into custody.

Driver refuses to put out cigarette, has pot

Shaylene Stanley, 25, of 78 West Hill Road, Apt. A, New Bedford, MA, was arrested by Tiverton police at 5:32 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 26 in the area of Bulgarmarsh and Main roads. She was charged with possession of marijuana (first offense), littering and operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license.

Jones said officers responded to that area for a report of a suspected drunk driver. Upon inspection, Jones said police identified the driver as Stanley and found her driver's license revoked. Jones said the officer asked Stanley to get out of the vehicle, asking about her license. She had a lit cigarette in her mouth. Jones said police asked her "several times" to put out the cigarette so they could take her into custody, but she reportedly continued refusing.

"After the third time, Stanley threw the cigarette on the ground," Jones said. "The officer asked her to pick it up. She refused."

After taking her into custody and prior to towing the vehicle, Jones said police found a clear plastic baggie in the driver's side door containing marijuana.

Daughter allegedly assaults parents

Kayla Pearson, 24, of 69 Fairfield Ave., Tiverton, was arrested at 6:33 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 22 at her home. She was charged with domestic simple assault and domestic vandalism.

Jones said police responded to the home for a report of a domestic disturbance. Upon arrival, police had to separate a female, later identified as Pearson, from an older male, later identified as her father.

"Police learned that during the altercation with her parents, Ms. Pearson punched her mother in the face and broke her glasses," Jones said.

Fall River youths found with booze in car

Andrew Estrella, 19, of 151 Joseph Drive, Fall River, MA was arrested by Tiverton police at 9:31 p.m., Friday, Nov. 25 on Main Road in the north end. Estrella was charged with possession of marijuana (first offense), presence of an alcoholic beverage while operating a motor vehicle and operating a motor vehicle in possession of controlled substances.

The passenger, Jeremy Fernandes, 19, of 419 Hope St., Fall River, was charged with possession of alcohol by an underage person.

Jones said an officer on post in front of stopped a vehicle with a loud exhaust and no rear plate. The officer identified the driver, Estrella, and passenger, Fernandes, and saw the inspection sticker was expired. Jones said the officer then saw a "large" bottle of rum underneath the feet of Fernandes, as well as a 30-pack of Bud Lite beers behind the driver's seat. A small bag of marijuana was also found in the driver's side door.

Teen allegedly assaults mother

A 16-year-old boy from Tiverton was arrested at 5:20 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 22 at his Brayton Road home. He was charged with one count of domestic simple assault.

Jones said police resonded for a 911 report of assault. Upon arrival, Jones said officers spoke with the boy's mother, who alleged her son "came up behind her and pushed her into the back of their vehicle, slamming her body against the car." The juvenile was charged, later released to a guardian and referred to the juvenile detective, Jones added.

Arrest warrant; violation of protective order

Robert Rancourt, 21, of 719 East Road, Tiverton, was arrested at 4:45 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 23. He was charged with domestic refusal to relinquish a telephone and violation of a protective order.

Jones said Rancourt was earlier that day on an affidavit based on an Sept. 11 incident with his 79-year-old grandmother at the East Road home. The grandson, identified as Rancourt, had just left the residence that day after an argument. The grandmother told police the argument escalated after she said she would call police.

"Rancourt grabbed the phone from her before she could call, saying that she needed help," Jones said.

Jones said Rancourt reportedly continued to argue with her, hid the phone and jumped into his car to hide from police. It was later learned that the grandmother had a protective order against the grandson.

Arrest warrant; woman allegedly passes bad check to veterinarian

Sherri Walsh, 39, of 14 Oaktree Road, Tiverton, was arrested at 12:40 p.m., Monday, Nov. 21. She was charged with passing fraudelent checks under $1,000.

Jones said the case, filed back in June 2007, was handled by detectives, where Walsh allegedly passed a bad check, amounting to $180.50, for services received at on Main Road. Jones said hospital staff attempted to contact Walsh to make good on the check, then contacted police, which further attempted to contact Walsh and failed.

Jones said the warrant was issued in 2007 and Walsh was picked up by Middletown Police on Nov. 21 and brought to district court.
