Blakey said the responding officer identified the driver as Theriault after she accidently rolled down the rear passenger window and it then "took her 10 seconds" to acknowledge her mistake before rolling down the driver's side window. Once down, the officer reportedly smelled a "strong odor of alcohol" emanating from the woman, and noted her eyes were extremely bloodshot, her speech was slurred and she mumbled.

She reportedly told the officer she left a bar in Providence and was trying to get home to Barrington, and the officer told her she was going in the completely wrong direction. Blakey said the woman thought she was in Swansea, MA, and added she drank two beers but "was a lightweight." Theriault reportedly took approximately four minutes to produce her license and contents from her glove box, and as she exited the vehicle, she was reportedly swaying and stumbling significantly and was placed under arrest.
