Tiverton Police: Suspicious Person Report Leads to Drug Arrest

The following arrests were supplied by the Tiverton Police Department.

Oxycodone possession

Steven B. Bigelow, 23, of 290 Judson St., Tiverton, was arrested by  around 5:19 p.m., Saturday, March 17. He was charged with possession of Oxycodone pills without a prescription.

Jones said an officer on post near Hooper and Judson streets noticed a suspicious man walking wearing black sweatpants and a gray-hooded sweatshirt. The officer approached the man, Bigelow, and asked what's going on, but he walked away and reportedly kept his hand in his pocket. Jones said during a subsequent investigation, they found 12 Oxycodone pills without a prescription.

Taxi Fare Evasion

Police charged a local man Sunday with trying to skip out on his taxi fare.

Edward Berube, 72, of 2371 Main Road, Tiverton, was arrested at 6:50 p.m., Sunday, March 18. He was charged with evading payment of a taxi fare.

Officers responded near the Main Road residence and spoke to the taxi driver of Vets Cab Service out of Fall River, said Lt. Patrick Jones. The driver said his passenger, Berube, said his $40 fare seemed odd and refused to pay, and would only pay with his debit card. Jones said the driver explained they did not take debit or credit cards and that it had to be cash. Police reportedly gave Berube a chance to pay since they were in front of his house, but he refused, so he was arrested.

Simple assault

Mandy Peixoto, 32, of 136 Lepes Road, Tiverton, was arrested at 8:50 p.m., Thursday, March 15. She was charged with domestic simple assault and battery.

Jones said police responded to the residence for a report of a domestic dispute. Upon arrival, officers determined a woman, Peixoto, and her estranged husband were having an argument. During the course, it's alleged Peixoto pulled the shirt of her estranged husband and clawed at him. Jones said he suffered a small injury to his right thumb and officers noted scratches on his right forearm. Based on that she was charged.

Disorderly with pot

Andrew J. Torres, 24, of 39 Bay St., Tiverton, was arrested at 11:01 p.m., Saturday, March 17. He was charged with disorderly conduct, possession of marijuana (first offense), operating a motor vehicle without a driver's license, operating a motor vehicle in possession of controlled substances, no use of turn signal and no rear view mirror.

Jones said an officer on post noticed a car speeding through a Bay Street intersection and did not properly stop at a stop sign. The officer stopped the vehicle and approached the driver, Torres, who allegedly began yelling and swearing. Through the tirade of insults, Jones said the officer noticed two marijuana roaches in the ash tray. Torres was then arrested.

Pot possession

Joshua Silva, 23, of 152 Columbia St., Fall River, MA, was arrested at 9:43 a.m., Monday, March 19. He was charged with possession of marijuana (first offense) and operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license.

Jones said an officer on a traffic post near Arbor Terrace saw a vehicle drive by without an inspection sticker and the operator without a safety belt on. Upon stopping the vehicle and approaching the driver, Silva, the officer noted an odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. Jones said Silva reportedly verified there was marijuana in his glove box, and police found two baggies.

Possession of large knife

Corey J. Bolick, 19, of 46 Robert Gray Ave., Tiverton, was arrested at 9:36 p.m., Sunday, March 18. He was charged with possession of a knife with a 10-inch blade.

Jones said police stopped a vehicle near for a motor vehicle violation. During a subsequent search, police learned a passenger, Bolick, carried a knife with a 10-inch blade.

Disorderly at school event

A 13-year-old girl, from Tiverton, was arrested at 7:36 p.m., Friday, March 16 at . She was charged with disorderly conduct and trespassing.

Jones said police received a call from the school's vice principal for a former student being disorderly and swearing at an evening event, and, when asked to leave, refused. On scene police found the girl sitting on a rock in front of the school, and she refused to provide information about a parent or guardian they could call. She was taken into custody. Back at the station, Jones said the girl cooperated and was released.
