Tiverton Police: Pot and Knife Possession, Stolen Miter Saw and Assault
The following arrests were supplied by the Tiverton Police Department. They do not indicate a conviction.

charged a local man last week with knife and pot possession after being stopped on Route 24.
Brian J. Martins, 20, of 155 Hemlock St., Tiverton, was arrested at 5:16 p.m., Sunday, March 11. He was charged with possession of a knife with a blade longer than three inches, possession of marijuana (first offense), operating a motor vehicle while in possession of controlled substances, lane violations and not wearing a seatbelt.
Lt. Patrick Jones said police stopped a vehicle on Route 24 north for making several lane roadway violations. The officer made contact with the operator, later identified as Martins. Jones said he was asked to step out of the vehicle for a pat down search. A knife with a blade longer than three inches was reportedly seized from his back pocket, and Jones said a subsequent search of the vehicle revealed a quantity of marijuana in the center console.

Stolen miter saw
Samuel Brooks, 18, of 301 Bulgarmarsh Road, Unit 49, Tiverton, was arrested at 9:53 p.m., Sunday, March 11. He was charged with larceny under $500.

Jones said Brooks was arrested on an affidavit and arrest warrant based on an Oct. 26, 2011 incident. It's alleged that witnesses saw Brooks stealing a miter saw from a Shove Street residence. Based on that, a warrant was issued, and Jones said Brooks was stopped on Route 24 on Sunday and during the computer check, the warrant came up.
Teen charged with assault
A 16-year-old boy, from Tiverton, was arrested at 7:30 p.m., Sunday, March 11. He was charged with simple assault and disorderly conduct.
Jones said police responded to a Canonicus Street home for a report of a disorderly person. Police met with a woman who said her son was being aggressive and out of control. She alleged her son lunged at her screaming and also threatened the boyfriend who was presently there. The teen was charged and sent to the training school that night.
Warrant arrest
Steven M. Smith, 38, of 413 Pokross St., Fall River, MA, was arrested at 7:28 p.m., Saturday, March 10. He was taken into custody based on an outstanding bench warrant issued in for failure to appear. jones said Smith was pulled over for not wearing a seatbelt and during the computer check, the warrant came up.
