Tiverton Police: Woman Allegedly Bloodies Sister's Face, Assault and 2 DUIs

Sister allegedly bloodies sibling's face

Melissa Helger, 27, of Fall River, was arrested by at 8:07 p.m., Sunday, June 10. She was charged with domestic simple assault.

Police were dispatched to 2638 Main Road for a report of a woman with blood on her neck, according to Lt. Patrick Jones. Officers observed a woman sitting on a bench in the front yard area, and reportedly saw a "significant" amount of blood around her head and neck.

"She had several lacerations to her face," Jones said, noting officers saw a bite mark near her right eye. "She had allegedly been in a fight with her sister."

Jones said the victim was treated by rescue personnel and officers spoke to witnesses and people involved, who alleged that during a verbal argument Melissa Helger assaulted her sister. Based on that, Helger, who was present, was taken into custody.

Driver blows .177 during stop

Victor DaSilva, 19, of 22 Cherry Lane, Tiverton was arrested at 11:17 p.m., Tuesday, June 5. He was charged with operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of drugs or alcohol, refusal to submit a chemical test, speeding and failure to stop at a stop sign.

Jones said an officer on post at the intersection of Canonicus and Mill streets saw a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed and go through a stop sign at an estimated speed of 50 miles per hour. Jones said the officer pulled the vehicle over on Fish Road near the building. The driver, DaSilva, reportedly displayed signs of alcohol intoxication.

DaSilva took a field sobriety test, which he reportedly failed. Jones said he took a preliminary breath test, which registered a reading of .177. DaSilva was then arrested and transported back the station, where he reportedly refused to submit a chemical test.

DaSilva was and charged felony aggravated assault.

Driver blows .139 during stop

Paull Bradford, 30, of 52 Lee Ave., Portsmouth, was arrested at 2:42 a.m., Sunday, June 10. He was charged with operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of drugs or alcohol (second offense within five years), refusal to submit a chemical test and several motor vehicle violations.

Jones said an officer on post at the Main Road and Route 24 on ramp saw a vehicle taking Exit 5 off ramp from Route 24 north at a high rate of speed, noting the noise of tires squeaking when taking the ramp. The officer followed the vehicle and stopped it at the Main Road and Williamson Street intersection. Jones said the officer noted the driver, Bradford, showed signs of alcohol intoxication. He was asked to submit a field sobriety test, which he failed. Bradford reportedly agreed to a preliminary breath test, which registered a reading of .139. Bradford was arrested and back a station, reportedly refused to submit a chemical test.

Alleged domestic assault

Allison Picard, 21, of Tiverton, was arrested at 1:17 p.m., Sunday, june 10. She was charged with domestic simple assault. Jones said police received a report of a domestic incident on Lepes Road. Officers arrived and reportedly spoke to Picard's 40-year-old aunt, who alleged she had an altercation with her niece, Allison. She alleged that Picard punched her in the left cheek with a closed fist. Based on that, Jones said Picard was taken into custudy from a residence on Hobson Avenue.

Making alleged threatening calls

Robert Amaral, 45, of 25 Orange St., Fall River, was arrested at 1:45 p.m., Sunday, June 10. He was charged with making crank or obscene phone calls. Jones said the case stems from a March 5 complaint from a person dating Amaral's ex-wife. It's alleged that Amaral called the boyfriend on his cell phone swearing and threatening bodily harm. Jons said the man gave a statement and a warrant was issued for Amaral's arrest. He was reportedly picked up by West Warwick police on June 10 and transferred for Tiverton for arraignment.

Violation of no contact order

Chad M. Bergeron, 36, of 1 Mill St., Apt. 1223, Tiverton, was arrested at 9 p.m., Friday, June 8. He was charged violation of a no contact order. Jones said the arrest occurred when officers when to do a welfare check at 19 Mill Street. Bergeron was reportedly present at the residence and the officer recognized who he was and that he had an active warrant for violating a no contact order. Jones said the warrant stems from a May 30 incident involving Bergeron's former girlfriend, with whom they have children in common. The girlfriend reportedly filed complaints she received numerous calls from Bergeron, which were hang ups. She did receive one of the calls, where the man on the other line said they needed to talk, and Jones said the girlfriend recognized the voice on the other end as Bergeron. Based on that and the girlfriend's statement, a warrant was drafted and Bergeron was arrested.
