Tiverton Police: Stolen Truck Parts and Bag of Pot Left Behind

The following arrests were supplied by the Tiverton Police Department. They do not indicate a conviction.

A report that truck chassis parts went missing from over the weekend has resulted in the arrest of a Fall River man.

Steven T. Long, 36, of 1643 Bay St., Fall River, was arrested at 8:52 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 8. He was charged with larceny under $500.

According to Lt. Patrick Jones, the business owner contacted police on Friday to report truck chassis parts were found missing from behind his business. They were valued at $50 apiece.

"It was later learned that the items in question were taken to a local scrap yard," Jones said.

The lieutenant added that it is required to present identification at the scrap yard. Based on that, police tracked down and spoke with Long, who admitted he took the parts and sold them at the scrap yard.

Jones noted that "scrapping" is a growing problem.

After accident, woman forgets her pot is still in the car

Deanna C. Chabot, 21, of 117 N. Eastern Ave., Fall River, was arrested at 10:27 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 6. She was charged possession of marijuana (first offense).

Lt. Jones said the woman was involved in a motor vehicle accident on Canonicus Street that morning and was transported by rescue to a nearby hospital. As part of policy, police are required to have vehicles towed from the accident scene and do an inventory search.

Jones said the woman left a laptop bag and purse behind. In the purse, police found a small bag of marijuana and small a glass pipe. He said the woman, later identified as Chabot, turned herself in.
