Tiverton Police: Super Bowl Night DUI and Man Allegedly Screams at Officer

reportedly found pot, open beer cans and a weapon on a Newport man driving on Route 24 on Super Bowl Sunday.
Stephen W. Nazario, 42, of 91 Van Zandt Ave., Newport, was arrested at 11:58 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 5 on Route 24. He was charged with operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of drugs or alcohol, possession of marijuana (first offense), possession of a weapon other than a firearm, refusal to submit a chemical test and operating a motor vehicle while in possession of controlled substances.
Lt. Patrick Jones said officers observed a vehicle driving 50 miles per hour in a 55 mile per hour zone on Route 24 that night, making several roadway violations and then increase speed to approximately 76 miles per hour. Jones said the officer stopped the vehicle and approached the operator, later identified as Nazario, who reportedly made indications he was possibly under the influence.

The officer asked Nazario to take several field sobriety tests, which he did and reportedly failed. Jones said police seized two open containers of Natural Ice beer and one full in a grocery bag. Also during a search of the interior, police found a pipe and small bag of marijuana and a greenish wooden club, or baton, approximately two feet long in the rear.
Jones noted that back at the station, Nazario refused to submit a chemical test.

Man reportedly screams at police
Timothy John Svendsen, 24, of 194 Mulberry St., Fall River, MA, was arrested at 9:25 p.m., Friday, Feb. 3, on Canonicus Street. He was charged with disorderly conduct and operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license.
Jones said an officer stopped the vehicle for having a broken windshield and a loud exhaust. They learned the driver, later identified as Svendsen, had his license suspended after leaving the scene of an accident.
When told his license was under suspension and he was going to be taken into custody, Jones said Svendsen began to swear at the officer.
"He swung open the [car] door and just missed the officer," Jones said. "He got within inches of the officer's face, yelling and swearing."
DUI
Jessica Bliss, 34, of 633 Crandall Road, Tiverton, was arrested 11:26 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 4, on Stafford Road. She was charged with operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of drugs or alcohol, presence of an alcoholic beverage while operating a motor vehicle and refusal to submit a chemical test.
Jones said police observed a car travel from William Canning Boulevard to Stafford Road making several lane roadway violations. When police stopped the vehicle and spoke to the driver, later identifed as Bliss, they made observations that she might be under the influence.
Bliss submitted to several field sobriety tests, which she reportedly failed. When brought back to the station and asked to take a breathalyzer test, Bliss reportedly refused.
Jones added that police recovered a vodka bottle from the interior of the car, which was reportedly three-quarters full.
Alleged domestic assault
Lynn Louis Diaz, 41, of 351 West Main Road, Apt. 125, Middletown, was arrested at 2:43 a.m., Thursday, Feb. 2, at at 1 Mill St. Diaz was charged with domestic simple assault and battery.
Jones said officers responded to the complex for a report of a domestic disturbance. They met with the husband, who said the suspect, later identified as Diaz, left the area prior to police arrival. The husband alleged that during a discussion with Diaz on their couch, she became enraged and punched him in the chest.
Jones said Diaz was later apprehended by , and Tiverton police picked her up to be processed.
Warrant arrest
Richard M. Ferreira, 33, of 45 Dover St., Fall River, MA, was arrested at 8:45 p.m., Friday, Feb. 3. He was taken into custody based on an outstanding warrant issued in Second District Court.
Jones said Ferreira was picked up by earlier that day, and the warrant was issued based on charges of reckless driving, eluding police and operating a motor vehicle on a suspended license.
