Tiverton Woman Claims TV Stolen; Allegedly Traded It for Drugs

The following arrests were supplied by the Tiverton Police Department. Arrests do not indicate a conviction.

A Tiverton woman was charged with filing a false report last week after it was revealed that the TV she claimed was stolen was instead allegedly exchanged by her during a drug transaction.

Ashley St. Onge, 24, of 84 Hayden Ave., Tiverton, was arrested by at 11:43 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 18. She was charged with filing a false report of a crime and obstruction of a police officer.

According to Lt. Patrick Jones, St. Onge filed a complaint back on July 18 that stated she and her friend were walking home when they observed someone take a 50-inch television from her residence, put it in a car and leave. She also showed the officer that an air conditioner was pushed in and said that was how the culprit, whom she was familiar with, made entry.

"The officer referred the case to the detectives," Jones said. "There were some unanswered questions to the nature of the break and larceny."

Jones said when detectives spoke to St. Onge, she alleged the culprit produced a knife and threatened to hurt her if he was not allowed to take the television.

Through the investigation, Jones said detectives were able to determine that no assault took place and that the television was given to the culrpit after an alleged drug transaction.

Simple assault

  • Paul B. Cantelmo, 40, of 159 Main Road, Tiverton, was arrested at 2:53 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 20. He was charged with domestic simple assault and battery and domestic disorderly conduct. According to Chief Thomas Blakey, police were called for a dispute between Cantelmo and his wife.
  • Jerold Bessette, 41, of 454 Crandall Road, Tiverton, was arrested at 6:05 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 22. He was charged with domestic simple assault. Blakey said police was dispatched to the residence for an alleged dispute between Bessette and his wife.
  • Lindsey K. Fernandes, 24, of 7 East DeMello Dr., Tiverton, was arrested at 4:04 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 16. She was charged with simple assault of battery.

Violation of no contact order

Joao P. Galiotti, 19, of 54 Hillside Ave., Tiverton, was arrested at 1:55 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 16, on Farnsworth Avenue. Galiotti was charged with violation of a no contact order. According to Lt. Jones, police received a call from the 17-year-old ex-girlfriend who said both parties had no contact orders issued against each other. Jones said she claimed that that morning, she received a call from Galiotti, questioning her about an incident that had taken place the other night. The call came in on a blocked or private line.

Jones said officers went to speak to Galiotti at his residence, and he allegedly indicated that he called the ex-girlfriend.

Drug possession

  • Peter Gabriel Rivera, 20, of 210 Bradford Ave., Fall River, was arrested by Tiverton Police at 7:03 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 20. He was charged with possession of marijuana (first offense) and operating a motor vehicle while in possession of controlled substances. Blakey said the pot was found during an inventory search of a motor vehicle stop.

Bench warrants

  • Jeffrey Martin, 41, of 528 Snell St., Fall River, was arrested by Tiverton Police at 8:49 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 16. Martin was taken into custody in an outstanding warrant issued in Second District Court and an outstanding warrant issued in Sixth District Court.
  • Keith E. Lark, 44, of 154 Mott St., Fall River, was arrested by Tiverton Police at 1:29 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 18. Lark was taken into custody on an outstanding bench warrant issued in Second District Court.
