Tiverton Woman Released From Hospital Following Grinnell's Beach Rollover

The following information was supplied by the Tiverton Police Department.

A Tiverton woman received several broken bones and fractures in a two car accident Sunday night in Stone Bridge that catapulted an SUV onto .

Dania Whitaker, 51, of Tiverton, was released from Rhode Island Hospital Monday morning, according to Lt. Patrick Jones.

Police received a call at 10:24 p.m. of a motor vehicle accident in the area of Main Road and Narragansett Avenue. Upon arrival, Jones said one of the vehicles, a 2005 Chevy Cavalier operated by Whitaker, sustained heavy front end damage in the southbound lane of Main Road. A second vehicle, a gray 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee operated by Karisa King, 19, of Southfield, MA, ended up on the beach.

From the initial investigation, Jones said the Jeep was heading northbound on Main Road when it reportedly crossed over into the southbound lane of travel in the area of Narragansett Avenue. It struck Whitaker's vehicle, the Chevy, and then catapulted over the seawall, rolling over and land on Grinnell's Beach.

Jones said fortunately for Ms. King, she only received minor bruises and scrapes.

He added that officers and the reconstruction team are currently reviewing the accident for a cause.

"At this time, charges are possible," Jones said. "We're trying to determine whether Ms. King was distracted and/or using her cell phone as she was operating."
