Tiverton Youth Allegedly Joyrides, Crashes Car into Fence

A 14-year-old Tiverton man was arrested by last week after he allegedly took a car without permission, went on a joyride and then crashed it into a fence in the north end.
The youth, arrested at 2:30 a.m., Thursday, Dec. 29, was charged with reckless driving, operating a motor vehicle without a license and operating a motor vehicle without consent.
According to Lt. Patrick Jones, officers responded to the area of Old Colony Terrace at about 1:30 a.m. for a report of a vehicle "racing around." Jones said officers found a red 2003 Oldsmobile Alero parked at the intersection of Old Colony Terrace and Brackett Avenue with damage to the front end, the driver's side fender door and the driver's side mirror. Jones said police found the 14-year-old sitting in the front seat and began to question him as to what happened.

Jones said police also rounded up several juveniles seen in the vicinity of the damaged car. He said the boy admitted to taking the vehicle and crashing it into a fence on Old Colony Terrace after joyriding in the neighborhood.
