71-Year-Old Man Drowns While Clamming Off Conimicut Point: Cops

First responders located the man in the water with the assistance of the Coast Guard, police said.

WARWICK, RI — A 71-year-old man drowned while clamming off Conimicut Point, police said.

Police officers and firefighters responded to Conimicut Point to investigate a report of a man in the water who had been clamming but "then was no longer visible" shortly after 1 p.m. Sunday, the Warwick Police Department said in a media release.

"With the assistance of the United States Coast Guard, a male was located in the water near the point," the release said.

"Warwick Fire pulled the male from the water and immediately began life saving measures."

The man was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead, according to the release.
