WESTERLY, RI — The pilot in Monday's fatal plane crash has been identified as a 21-year-old Charlestown resident.
Isaac Seekell was pronounced dead at Westerly Hospital, the Westerly Police Department posted to social media.

Those who knew him remember his friendly spirit, love for the Lord, and passion for flying. His former coach shared that Isaac dreamed of becoming a pilot and pursued that calling wholeheartedly.
Seekell, the only occupant of the Cessna 172N Skyhawk, registration N733CP, crashed in a field near Westerly State Airport about noon, the post said.

The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board were notified and have assumed responsibility for investigating the cause of the crash, according to the post.
The NTSB said in an email that an on-scene investigation was to be conducted this week.

The Word of Life Bible Institute in Pottersville, New York, posted on Facebook that Seekell attended the school from 2023 to 2024 and was the goalkeeper on the soccer team.
