Today's riddle: What do you get when you cross an angry cow with an angry sheep? 🤔 (Answer below!)
1. The 10 Areas In Rhode Island Reporting The Highest Tick Populations This Summer (takingthekids.com) — Westerly is seeing rising tick reports, including aggressive lone star ticks, in its scrubby coastal woods and trails just inland from the beaches. If you live in or visit town, experts urge you to use repellent on shoes and socks, stay on cleared paths, and remove any attached ticks promptly while noting the date, since nymphs peak in late spring and early summer.
2. Local Roundup: Crawford, Maranda lead Westerly to first volleyball win (thewesterlysun.com) — Westerly High's girls volleyball team opened its Division I campaign at home by sweeping Exeter/West Greenwich, with standout performances from Svea Crawford and Alison Maranda. The roundup also highlights strong cross-country showings, including Westerly runner Patrick Fowler's fast time in the Johnston Division race.
3. Police: Two uninjured in Richmond plane crash (thewesterlysun.com) — Two people escaped injury after a small plane crashed nose-down on Heaton Orchard Road near Richmond Airport, temporarily closing nearby roads while multiple agencies responded. The story also recalls a May 18 crash by Westerly State Airport that killed Charlestown pilot Isaac Seekell, whose flight was a post-maintenance test and remains under NTSB investigation.
4. Lorraine J. Seeley, Church and Community Volunteer, Dies at 93 (thedailycatch.org) — Westerly friends and neighbors are mourning Lorraine Jeannine Seeley, a devoted church and community volunteer who died September 2 at age 93. After retiring here with her husband Ed, she became active with St. Pius X Church, the Westerly Armory, the Senior Center, and other local groups. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday at St. Pius X, followed by burial at River Bend Cemetery.
