Body Pulled From Blackstone River In Woonsocket

WOONSOCKET, RI — A body was pulled from the Blackstone River Wednesday afternoon.

Officers responded to a report of a possible human body floating face down near the South Main Street bridge about 12:30 p.m., the Woonsocket Police Department said in a media release.

The officers "confirmed a body was hung up on brush on the side of the riverbank," the release said.

"Fire personnel from Woonsocket and Cumberland assisted with recovering the body from the river and bringing it to a safe location for the medical examiner to take custody," according to the release.

The matter remains under investigation.
