WOONSOCKET, RI — A pregnant woman was found stabbed to death in her bedroom and her live-in boyfriend was arrested after a harrowing chase that saw him make a run for it from River Island Park and swim across the Blackstone River, police said.
Gabriela Vallejo, 29, was found dead in the bedroom of her Sayles Street apartment with multiple stab wounds to her neck shortly after 2:30 p.m. Thursday, the Woonsocket Police Department said in a media release.
"The Woonsocket Police investigation into the suspicious death ... led to her live-in boyfriend, William Santiago Ramos," the release said.
Officers located Santiago Ramos, 30, about 7 p.m. in River Island Park.
"A foot pursuit ensued, during which Ramos swam across the Blackstone River," the release said. "He was subsequently apprehended behind residential properties on Front Street."
Santiago Ramos was interviewed by detectives and arrested on charges of domestic murder, sex offender failure to notify of change of address and obstructing an officer in the execution of duty, according to the release.
Ramos was scheduled to appear in court Friday.
