Wanted for 18 Bank Jobs: Suspect in Custody

WOONSOCKET, RI — The suspect in the Dec. 2 bank robberies is in custody, police said.

Stephen Silva, of Springfield, Mass., was arrested in Hartland Vt. by the Vermont State Police after he was identified for robbing a local bank in Vermont.

The Woonsocket Police Department has identified him as the suspect for the Dec. 2 robberies of the Bank of America on John Cummings Way and the Citizens Bank on Cumberland Street.

Silva was taken into custody at an unknown location and has now been implicated as a suspect in 18 other bank robberies on the East Coast. The Woonsocket Police would like to thank the Providence Office of the FBI, the Vermont State Police, the Simsbury Vermont P.D. and members of the public for help solving the case.
