Boys Hockey: Mounties Bounce Back with Two Convincing Victories

MSC scored three in the first period and never allowed it to be close on Friday, defeating division rival Moses Brown 6-3.

After an up and down end to January, the Mounties looked to right the ship on Friday against division foe Moses Brown. MSC hopped out to a lead eight seconds in and never trailed, ascending over the Quakers in the season standings.

MSC upset Hendricken Jan. 27 by a decisive 4-1 final, but went on to have a poor effort in Saturday's loss to LaSalle.

"We talked about putting the LaSalle loss behind us and getting some momentum from that Friday win. And that's what we did," MSC Coach David Belisle said.

The Mounties wasted no time getting things back on track. Brian Belisle found Ryan Berard, just eight seconds into the first period to give MSC a 1-0 lead.

The Mounties would go on to dominate the first period, netting two more goals and outshooting the Quakers 18-6. Brian Belisle got his second assist on a goal from Brian Campbell, and Callan Morriseau beat Connor Friend with a glove side wrister to make it 3-0 MSC.

"In the first period we got it in deep and we attacked the net. And we finished strong in the first period," Belisle said.

Tyler Scroggins lit the lamp early in the second period for the Mounties, effectively putting the game out of reach at 4-0.

The Quakers were able to put the puck in the net a few times later in the game but were never able to make it less than a three-goal deficit, falling 6-3 to MSC.

Defensemen Austin Miller had two goals and Connor Friend had 52 saves for Moses Brown in the loss.

The first line was especially strong for the Mounties, netting three goals on the night. Brian Belisle had a hand in all of them with three assists. Brian Cambell had two goals and Ryan Berard added a goal.

"They've done really well. And you need your top line to perform so you can teach the young kids the game, the Mount game," Belisle said.

Belisle keyed in on the third period as being a key going forward.

"We had a good third period tonight. But we need to be consistent with that in order to be a contender," Belisle said.

MSC improved to 7-4 on the season with the win over Moses Brown, and Saturday's 6-0 thrashing of North Kingstown puts MSC at 8-4, with wins in five of their last six games. The Mounties will look to continue their winning ways on Friday against Lincoln at Adelard Arena.
