Boy's Soccer: Mounties Get The "Ball Rolling" with a Win over Cranston West

Traumuller and Stein propel Mount St. Charles to victory.

Mount St. Charles visited Cranston West for the first regular season soccer game for both teams.

Both teams came out rusty with some sloppy play and neither team controlled the game for any period of time.

First game butterflies looked to be out in full force for both teams to start the contest. "We came out very flat, very tenative, very nervous," Mounties Coach Miles Henderson said after the game.

They traded scoring chances until Christopher Brown was able to find Evan Traumuller off the corner kick to give the mounties an early 1-0 lead after ten minutes of play.

The Falcons turned up the intensity and Jarod Terry was almost able to score off of the set ball, but was denied by a great save from Geoffrey Cicatiello of Mount St. Charles. But the Falcons were able to score a minute later on some slick passing from Christopher Burrows who found Ian Chalmers for the top-shelf finish, knotting the score at one apiece.

The Mounties responded with consistent pressure in their offensive zone and controlled the tempo for the remainder of the game. The Mounties reclaimed the lead, one that they would not yield, on a right wing give-and-go from Tim Stein to Evan Traumuller who netted his second goal of the game.

"Evan is a natural striker. He is one of our few finishers and he has really stepped forward, in this game and in our scrimmages. He just has a nose for the ball," Coach Miles Henderson said.

The Mounties went on to dominate the rest of the game, out-shooting the Falcons 25-11 in the game. "In the second half we really started to impose ourselves more and really play our style of game,"Henderson said.

Tim Stein added a goal to his assist and Mount St. Charles went on to win by a final of 3-1.

Both teams came out erratic but the Mounties were able to dominate the time of possession and secure the victory on the backs of Traumuller and Stein.
