Mount Saint Charles (10-3) swept Cranston East (4-8) in a boys volleyball match Thursday night, winning all three games against the Thuderbolts despite some competitive games.
In the first game, the Mounties jumped out to a 16-7 lead. The Thunderbolts managed to cut it to 19-13, but eventually Mount took the game 25-15.
The second and third games were more of a challenge, with Cranston East stepping up their efforts. The Mounties led early in the second game 7-5.

It was tied at 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, and 13, before the Thunderbolts took a 15-13 lead. The Mounties responded with a 6-1 run, taking a 19-16 lead. It was a lead they would never relinquish, winning the second game, 25-23.
In the final game, the Mounties led throughout, but never extended their lead by more than six points. After trailing 17-11, the Thunderbolts cut their deficit to 20-18.

They would not get any closer, however, and a kill by Mounties senior Patrick McCarthy ended the match, winning the final game for the team, 25-20.
MSC senior Chris Dugas led the Mounties with 17 digs. Sophomore Ryan Durand ran the offense effectively, with 33 assists and 4 kills. Dan Cahaly notched 10 kills and 3 blocks.
Thunderbolts senior Viseth Phum led the defense with 22 digs. Captain Chai Kue had 13 assists and 4 digs, and senior Billy Chen had 5 kills, 9 digs, and 4 blocks.
Thomas Ferri, Thunderbolts head coach, praised the Mounties squad. "They are probably the number three team in the league," he said.
"We didn’t block well tonight," the coach added.
Mounties coach, Josh D'Abate, was pleased with the night's performance. "Tonight was a step in the right direction towards the playoffs," he said. "I thought we passed the ball really well."
