Relief

The death of OBL hopefully can bring closure to a difficult period of our nation's history.

That is what greeted Americans as they awoke on Monday morning, May the 2 2011.

Finally, in a place half a world away the madman mastermind of 9/11 had met his end, compliments of the elite special forces of the United States Navy.  I was about to turn in on Sunday evening, when I noticed on my Twitter feed - yes I am one of the millions addicted to social media - that the President was going to address the nation at 10:30 that evening.

As I waited to hear what he had to say, I wondered if this could be "it."   Could it be after nearly 10 years, since that fateful day that changed America and our way of life - could justice have finally been done?

Now all the pundits and professionals have their opinion on what this all means to our politics, and who and what can take credit for this outcome that we have all sought for nearly a decade.   However, let's take a moment, and thank all of the Service men and women of this nation who have answered the call.  Especially those who are no longer with us, from the nearly 3000 who perished on that fateful day in 2001, including the 343 brave souls of the FDNY, as well as all of the servicemen who made the ultimate sacrifice in a strange land with funny sounding names.

They did not die in vain. So this morning, you should have a little spring in your step, the birds are singing, the flowers are in bloom, and the Red Sox and Bruins both won!    But most importantly, the madman is dead, and maybe, just maybe, we all can feel a little bit safer.
