Community Care Alliance Receives Donated Art from the Art Connection - RI

The Art Connection-RI and Community Care Alliance have worked together to transform several Community Care Alliance sites in Woonsocket, RI into a more welcoming environment for clients, staff, and visitors. Through their art donation program, The Art Connection-RI facilitated the donation of 24 original works of art by 11 artists. Artwork has been installed at the agency’s Partial Hospitalization Program space at 800 Clinton Street, at the Community Support Program at 55 Cummings Way, and at the Northern Rhode Island Visitation Center at 31 Orchard Street, Woonsocket.
At a reception held on May 28th in honor of The Art Connection, CCA President & CEO Ben Lessing spoke of the impact the donation has had on the people served by the agency. “We are very grateful to the Art Connection for their contribution of paintings from local artists to three of our sites at Community Care Alliance,” Lessing said. “It is very clear from the feedback we have received from clients that the art enhances the therapeutic environment we are attempting to create. The vibrant colors and creativity of these paintings help make these sites inviting and comfortable for persons often struggling with their vulnerability and painful experiences. We see art in this context as another tool in the recovery process.”
Community Care Alliance staff members chose works in a variety of media by New England artists: Janet Alling, Beverly Thomas, Ruth Brandt, Maria Termini, Arthur Swoger, David Kupferman, Jerry Aissis, Joan Rogers, Sophie Breton, B. Lucy Stevens, and Riva Leviten. Images of the artworks are available on request.

Community Care Alliance

The agency seeks to empower people experiencing economic insecurity, mental illness and addictions, housing issues, and other trauma-related concerns by connecting them to supportive services within the agency and in the community. Community Care Alliance’s mission is to support individuals and families in their efforts to meet economic, social and emotional challenges and enhance their well-being. The Art Connection-RI
The Art Connection-RI builds connections between artists and their communities by bringing art to community organizations – clinics, youth and senior service programs, job training centers, shelters and residential programs, and more. The Art Connection-RI identifies artists willing to donate their work, presents the art to prospective recipients to select the appropriate work for their organization, and teaches them to care for the art. These works of art are then the permanent property of the organizations. In their new environments, art stimulates dialogue, creativity, learning and healing. This simple but powerful idea has resulted in almost three hundred fifty installations into thirty Rhode Island organizations, giving those who often have the least access to art direct contact in their own communities.
The Art Connection-RI’s art placement program is made possible through the generous support of individual donors and is funded in part by grants from the Fay Slover Fund, the Rhode Island State Council on the Arts, and the Rhode Island Foundation.
