Families Displaced, Cat Rescued in Woonsocket Fire

Several people have been displaced after an apartment building caught fire on Monday morning.

The American Red Cross is helping the five or six families to help them find homes, Providence Journal reported.

The heavy fire took place on the top floor of the building at 685 Wood Ave. around 7:30 a.m.

A fluffy, orange cat that may have been caught in the fire was found on Tuesday near Burnside Avenue.

The cat looked like he was “recently attacked by another animal,” according to a post on RI Lost Pets Facebook page.

A Facebook user, who recognized the cat, said the cat was from the fire on Wood Avenue.

The user said the cat belonged to Nancy the manager. “I know because I used to feed him,” he wrote.

Firefighters were able to rescue an orange cat covered in black soot from the Monday fire, according to WPRI. Firefighters gave the cat oxygen using a specialized animal oxygen mask, WPRI reported.
