Football: CLCF Falls to Woonsocket in JV Superbowl
Mekhi Henderson of the Woonsocket Redskins ran for four touchdowns in the 38-6 win for the Redskins.
Cranston Stadium played host to the JV Football Superbowl on Sunday, which pitted the CLCF Chiefs against the Woonsocket Redskins. The Redskins played a more physical brand of football and coasted to a 38-6 victory in a game which they never trailed.
The Redskins took possession to start the contest on their own 47. Woonsocket established the pass early as Hunter Oppenheim found Elijah Cabral for a 30-yard gain down to the Chiefs 25 yard line. The Redskins then handed off to their stud running back Mekhi Henderson, who broke some tackles on his way for the score, giving the Skins an 8-0 lead after the Preston Rush Jr. scampered in for the two-point conversion.
The Chiefs responded on the ensuing drive by getting a couple of first downs, leaning on running backs Dmitri Lonardo and Jake Derderian. But the Redskins crowded the line, as the Chiefs hadn't shown any willingness to throw the ball, and the Chiefs turned it over on downs.

Woonsocket kept up their superior blocking and created another gaping hole for their running back to go through. This time it was Preston Rush Jr. finding the seam and rushing for a 53 yard touchdown, which was followed by a Henderson two-point conversion carry, upping the Redskin lead to 16-0 four minutes into the game.
The Chiefs continued to struggle mixing up their play calling, running the ball exclusively. CLCF finally called a pass play, but Jake Palazzo was picked off by Anthony Jordan who returned it to the Chiefs 30 yard line. Henderson took full advantage as he spun away from tacklers and rumbled his way into the endzone for a 32-yard touchdown. Henderson would find the endzone again later in the half for 59 yards out and the Redskins led 32-0 at halftime.

The Chiefs had a nice drive to start the second half but after a 12 plays, Sean Devlin fumbled on the the 3-yard line and Woonsocket recovered. The Chiefs trailed by four scores to start the second half and the turnover by Devlin ended any ideas of a comeback.
Mekhi Henderson covered 91 yards in two carries off the turnover as the Skins tacked on another six. Jake Derderian found the endzone for the Chiefs later but Woonsocket came away with a 38-6 JV Superbowl victory.
The ability of Woonsocket to run the ball and stop the run were keys in their blowout victory.
"They were better than us today. They were just more physical," CLCF Coach Glen Lonardo said.
Henderson was the star for the Redskins, running 221 yards and scoring four touchdowns.
