Four Families Displaced After East School Street Fire

The American Red Cross is helping four families (six adults and two children) after a fire early Wednesday on East School Street.

WOONSOCKET, RI—A fire started shortly after midnight Wednesday in a vacant apartment on East School Street, according to Capt. Michael Morin, Woonsocket Fire Department. Capt. Morin said the dispatchers received the frst call around 12:15 a.m.

Nine apparatus and 21 firefighters responded. No one was injured.

Also, there were no reports of pets lost or injured.

However, four families have been displaced. The American Red Cross said it is helping six adults and two children impacted by the fire and has provided assistance to meet the families’ immediate needs.

Firefighters cleared the scene at 3:30 a.m. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
