Update: Full Schedule of MLK Weekend Events Announced

Release: Collaboration results in three events honoring the civil rights leader in Woonsocket.

 

Several community organizations, including , , , the Tyra Club, the Woonsocket Rotary, as well as and the Woonsocket Police Department have partnered together to present the MLK Weekend Celebration in Woonsocket which will commence on Friday, Jan. 13, with the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration Banquet at Savini’s Restaurant, 476 Rathbun Street in Woonsocket at 6:30 p.m..  Life size mock ups for a Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. memorial site will be on display.  The guest speaker will be the Reverend Doris Hooks from the Congdon Baptist Church in Providence.  Tickets are $25.00 adults, $10.00 children under 12. On Sunday, Jan. 15 at 4 p.m., there will be a Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration Sunday Service at St. James Baptist Church, 340 South Main Street, in Woonsocket.  The featured speaker will be Reverend Kenneth Simms of the New Hope Baptist Church in Boston.

On Monday, January 16 at 10 a.m., at the intersection of South Main and Mason Streets in Woonsocket, there will be the unveiling of the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Site, a unique display of life size, colorful, human silhouettes, one of which will be a likeness of Dr. King.  Lunch will follow at St. James Baptist Church, 340 South Main Street, Woonsocket. 

The MLK Community Committee wants to thank NeighborWorks and Citizen's Bank Foundation (who have underwritten our Monday event,) for their partnership.  We appreciate the sponsorship of our MLK  Monday celebration.  All silhouettes presented, at the memorial site, intersection of Mason and South Main Streets, are being supported through NeighborWorks and Citizen's Bank Foundation, including the refreshments that will follow at St.James Baptist Church, after the Memorial Dedication.
