(Patch Media)

Happy Friday, neighbors! Let's get you all caught up to start today off on an informed note.

First, today's weather:

Mostly cloudy and windy. High: 49 Low: 27.

Here are the top stories today in Woonsocket:

  1. The City of Woonsocket will be participating in the upcoming Woonsocket job fair at DLT's Woonsocket Career Center, 219 Pond Street today from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Bring your resume and be prepared for an interview. Registration is not required. The following jobs with the city are available: Public Safety Telecommunications Clerk, Animal Control Officer, Senior Equipment Mechanic-Department of Public Works, Utility Person-Department of Public Works and City Tax Assessor. Other employers include Landmark Medical Center, the Brickle Group, General Dynamics Electric Boats, and Toray Plastics.(WLNE-TV (ABC6))
  2. Protesters were outside of CVS headquarters in Woonsocket, protesting 'corporate greed.' The group says that CVS' expansion into areas that have traditionally been served by local, independent pharmacies makes it hard for those pharmacies to compete, and often forces them out of business. At the same time, CVS shared plans to close hundreds of drugstores over the next 3 years. (The Providence Journal)
  3. CVS is closing 900 stores over the next 3 years. It plans to close 300 stores in each of the next three years in response to changes in shopping habits, population shifts and changing healthcare needs. The Woonsocket-based company did not say which stores it would close or which states would be most affected by the closures. The first round of closings will begin in the spring of 2022. (Woonsocket Patch)
  4. Woonsocket City Officials have a plan to sell off 600,000 tons of gravel in Cass Park, the first major step in what's expected to be a years-long project to transform the park into a track and football field for Woonsocket High School.(Valley Breeze)
  5. Woonsocket's All Saints Church, on Rathburn Street, will close its doors in January or February next year, the latest of the city's Catholic churches to face closure amid declining enrollment and financial strain. The parish will be merged with St. Joseph Parish on Mendon Road. The closure will also force the relocation of New Beginnings Soup Kitchen, which operates out of the church's basement. They've been searching for a new location. (Valley Breeze)
